Today we celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany. First, we joined in with our whole-school liturgy led by Mrs. Munnelly and Year 4. Then, in the afternoon we enjoyed our very own ‘Epiphany Party’! We made our own crowns and celebrated with juice and biscuits.
As we continued our learning about different shapes, we had a very busy day at the Shape Shop! We had lots of customers ringing and describing the different shapes they wanted to buy!
On our 'Arctic Day' we explored ice, 'snow', we looked on Google Earth at real pictures of cold places and then finished the day with a hot chocolate. We made sure we dressed appropriately by wearing our warmest clothes.
On World Book Day, we dressed up as our favourite characters and read with our Year 6 buddies.
As part of our topic 'Springtime', we wanted to investigate what plants need to be able to grow. We decided we needed sunlight, soil and water. The children helped to plant some cress seeds, as well as making their own 'Sprout Houses' to grow some beans. We enjoyed doing some observational drawings and paintings of different types of flowers, as well as exploring flowers using our senses.
After reading ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ we were inspired to grown our own beanstalks. We made our own ‘Sprout House’ and planted a bean seed and watched them grow!
On Friday 18th March, we celebrated the feast of St. Joseph. Year 2 led us in a wonderful Collective Worship, in which everyone in our school community placed a stone at the foot of St. Joseph. This reminds us that we are all part of our school community. To make our day special, we came dressed in non-uniform and had an extra-long playtime!
Mr Hutchinson even treated us to an ice-lolly at home time!
We have been enjoying this unusual sunny-March weather. We spent lots of time outside practising our balancing, throwing, climbing, rolling and running skills using the outdoor apparatus.
We have been practising applying our phonics skills to help us write cvc words as well as words containing digraph and trigraphs. We used chalk and our friends to help us practise our fabulous newly learned knowledge!
We enjoyed continuing our learning outdoors in the lovely March sunshine ☀️
We planted some dwarf sunflowers to keep in our classroom. We took it in turns to add soil, water and seeds to a container. 🌻
To prepare for our Easter Bonnet parade, we each made an Easter Bonnet and decorated it with chicks, eggs, feathers and lots of other things! We had lots of fun using glue and stickers.
We continued our Easter celebrations by having an Easter Bonnet Parade! We made our own bonnets (we even made them for Mr Hutchinson and Mr Shuttleworth!) and we then celebrated as a whole school. 🐣
