Curriculum Overviews
- RE - This term, the children in Year 2 will be learning about Creation and Covenant. They will be identifying the books of the Old Testament and the Gospels of the New Testament. Children will be provided with an opportunity to understand the meaning of Psalms and Scripture. There will be a specific focus on the stories of Creation and Noah, and children will use these Scriptures to identify ways to look after our beautiful world.
- Maths - In maths, Year 2 children will be learning about Number and Place Value and the Properties of Shape. In number, children revisit learning from Year 1 on numbers to 20. While children have already gone beyond this, the numbers from 11 to 15 often prove more difficult to understand, so this step provides an opportunity to revisit these numbers explicitly before moving on to look at numbers to 100 later in the block. In shape, children begin by recapping their understanding of shape from Year 1. Before learning about the properties of shapes, children need to recognise and name both 2-D and 3-D shapes and differentiate between them.
- English - In handwriting, the children will be revisiting the correct pencil hold, positioning of paper and the letter formation families. There will be a specific focus on joining the ladder lumar letters, capital letters and number skills. In guided reading, the children will be reading the books Dear Greenpeace by Simon James and The Storm Whale by Benji Davis, with a focus on vocabulary, retrieval, and reading fluency. In writing, the children will be using the class text Dear Greenpeace to produce independent formal letters and a narrative.
