Our Intent
At St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School we recognise the vital role of art and design in nurturing curiosity, creativity and self –expression to develop confidence and critical thinking skills. Art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. Pupils will learn about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms. They will be taught to analyse and to articulate their understanding of art and design. They will reflect on how it shapes our history and contributes to the diverse culture and creativity within our school.

The Stations of the Cross: Whole school project
Over the past few weeks, the children of St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School have taken part in a deeply meaningful and creative journey, bringing the Stations of the Cross to life in a truly unique way. Each class has designed and created two individual Stations, resulting in a collective effort that reflects both reverence and imagination.
To inspire their work, every class explored the style and influence of a different local Leeds artist, carefully studying their techniques and incorporating these elements into their own pieces. This has led to a rich and varied display, with each Station offering something distinct and thoughtful. From bold use of colour to intricate textures and patterns, pupils have experimented with a wide range of media and artistic methods, demonstrating both skill and dedication.
The finished Stations stand as a powerful testament to the creativity, collaboration, and reflective spirit of the St. Joseph’s school community.
