Caring in Our Faith
Catholic Care
Catholic Care is a charity dedicated to promoting social justice and supporting those in need. Their work is open to everyone, regardless of faith or background, and they aim to demonstrate how the Christian values of love, charity, and justice can guide how we live together. You can find out more about their work on their website.
St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School works closely with Catholic Care to provide a supportive environment for all members of our school community. They offer guidance and support for children and families on a range of issues, including anger, behaviour at school or home, bullying, health concerns, anxiety, stress, separation, and grief. All sessions are conducted in a safe and confidential setting.
Liz Senior is our dedicated Catholic Care worker who supports children, families, and staff here at St Joseph’s.
Hello! My name is Liz Senior, and I’m delighted to be part of the wonderful team at St Joseph’s, where I work one day a week. My background is in Social Work, and for the past seven years I’ve had the privilege of supporting the St Joseph’s community.
In my role, I work closely with children, their families, and school staff to offer both therapeutic and practical support. I absolutely love being part of this school the children are fantastic, and the staff are so dedicated and supportive. It’s inspiring to work alongside a team that truly values the well-being and happiness of every child in their care.
Catholic Care also offers many additional projects accessible to schools, including:
The Young Carers Project – supporting children who care for a parent or sibling with a health condition. Junior and senior groups provide term-time sessions and occasional trips during school holidays.
The Gianna Baby Bank Plus – a free, confidential service providing practical support for new parents, including clothes, nappies, prams, cots, and other essentials. Social Workers also offer advice and signposting to additional services.
Hypnobirthing Programme – a free, structured programme led by a qualified practitioner, delivered over 4–5 sessions.
Community Counselling Service – free, confidential support provided by qualified and trainee counsellors, offering up to six sessions per person.
Mindfulness sessions – promoting mental health and well-being for children and families.
For more information about any of these services, families are encouraged to speak with school staff, who can connect them with Liz Senior.
