Guided Reading
In guided reading, the children are studying the fiction story 'Beowulf'. We use the VIPERS acronym to aid the recall of the six reading domains as part of the reading curriculum. This supports and develops children's comprehension of reading. VIPERS stands for Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explanation, Retrieval, and Sequence or Summarise. In fluency the children are reading 'The Invisible Dog' by Dick King-Smith. When reading aloud, children should focus on understanding the text, reading with expression, and engaging with the story. They should also practice reading fluently and at a moderate pace, pausing at punctuation to aid comprehension.
You can help your child by joining the local library and spending time at home reading books for pleasure.
