Practicing Our Faith
Our Parish - St Margaret Clitherow
St Joseph's Catholic Primary School is proudly part of the parish of St. Margaret Clitherow.
We work in partnership with the Diocese of Leeds to promote our Catholic ethos, mission statement and Gospel values.
History
St Margaret Clitherow Parish serves much of South Leeds and was formed from three parishes dating back to the mid-19th century:
- St Joseph’s, Hunslet - Opened in 1860, rebuilt in 1971, closed in 1994, and later demolished in 2005.
- St Peter’s, Belle Isle - Began in 1937, formally opened in 1953 to designs by Charles Fox, and remodelled in 1984 by Peter Langtry-Langton.
- St Philip’s, Middleton - Originated as a Mass centre in the 1920s. A church was built in 1933 and later replaced in 1996 by the present church, designed by Michael Bateson Associates.
